Practicing Memory
Hosted by Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto, the exhibit Practicing Memory in a time of an all-encompassing present reflects upon the theme of memory as a practice of organizing thought through the production of images and therefore also through writing history, at least up until its democratization.
In a scenario where national narrations and their being anchored to the present have been substituted by global constructions of memory made of mediatised events and collective emotional strain, which is the value today of artistic interventions on the dynamics that take place between oblivion and memory? Is it possible to create short circuits in historiographic flows aimed at a non-compromised interpretation of the present? Practicing Memory tries to answer with that artistic practice that departs from the idea of nostalgic memory and takes part in the social process of preservation of memory.
The exhibit is curated by Matteo Lucchetti and features works by Francesco Arena, Rossella Biscotti, Beatrice Catanzaro, Chto Delat? / What is to be done?, Michelangelo Consani, Danilo Correale, Dora Garcia, André Guedes, Shilpa Gupta, Rabih Mroué, Wendelin Van Oldenborgh, Mirko Smerdel, Société Réaliste, Stefanos Tsivopoulos, Vangelis Vlahos.
It opens on the June 25 and is on until September 30.
